The variable Stubbe Bock ( Stenocorus meridianus ) is a beetle of the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

features

The male is about 12 to 20 millimeters long, the female 15 to 25 millimeters. They have a wingspan of about 40 millimeters. The wing covers are variably colored and drawn. They can be solid light brown to dark brown with dark markings or black. The legs are usually reddish brown and darken at the knees. The antennae, head and pronotum are also kept in different shades of brown or black. The body is more or less densely covered with short hairs that give the surface a silky, shiny appearance.

Occurrence

The variable stumphorn lives in deciduous forests , in clearings, on the edges of the forest, on flowering low shrubs and can be found there from May to July.

It is common throughout Europe, including southern and southeastern Europe as far as Turkey and all of northern Europe as far as the Baltic States , and in the west as far as Great Britain. Its distribution area extends in the east to the Caucasus and Kazakhstan .

Way of life

The larvae develop in rotten, diseased or dead deciduous trees, also in willows and fruit trees. The diurnal adults feed on pollen and nectar .

Systematics

The variable stump buck belongs to the subfamily of the narrow bucks (Lepturinae) and within this group to the tribe Rhagiini . Within the genus Stenocorus , the variable stump buck belongs to the subgenus Stenocorus (Stenocorus) , i.e. Stenocorus in the narrower sense. There are a few color varieties:

  • Stenocorus meridianus var. Cantharinus autumn , 1784
  • Stenocorus meridianus var. Chrysogaster cabinet , 1781
  • Stenocorus meridianus var. Laevis Olivier , 1795
  • Stenocorus meridianus var. Ruficrus ( Scopoli , 1763)
