Stephan Ernst (theologian)

Stephan Ernst (born October 26, 1956 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Stephan Ernst attended Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main and then studied Catholic theology , philosophy , pedagogy and musicology from 1975 to 1977 at the Philosophical-Theological University of St. Georgen, Frankfurt am Main and from 1977 to 1982 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster . From 1982 to 1987 Stephan Ernst was a research assistant at Peter Hünermann in Tübingen and from 1987 to 1999 he was a consultant for religious-theological adult education in the Archdiocese of Paderborn. From 1990 to 1993 Ernst was a recipient of a Fritz Thyssen Foundation grant, during which time he also spent two years researching in Paris. After completing his habilitation at the Catholic theological faculty in Tübingen, Ernst was a private lecturer in the subject of theological ethics. Since April 1999 he has been a full professor for “ Theological Ethics - Moral Theology ” at the University of Würzburg .

Stephan Ernst is married and has three children. He is one of the signatories of the Church 2011 memorandum : A necessary departure .
