Stephan Goertz
Stephan Goertz (* 1964 in Oberhausen ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian .
Life
Goertz studied Roman Catholic theology at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität and at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum , where he obtained a diploma in Catholic theology in 1991 . From 1992 to 2004 he worked as a research assistant or assistant at the seminar for moral theology (Prof. DDr. Antonio Autiero ) at the Catholic-Theological Faculty in Münster. In 1998 he received his doctorate with the thesis “ Moral theology under modernization pressure. Interdisciplinarity and modernization as provocations of theological ethics - in dialogue with the sociology of Franz-Xaver Kaufmann ” . He completed his habilitation in 2003 with the thesis “Because ethics want to become practical. Philosophical-theological studies on the theory-practice relationship ” .
From 2004 to 2010 Goertz was Professor of Social Ethics and Practical Theology at Saarland University . Goertz has been Professor of Moral Theology at the University of Mainz since 2010 . In Austria he became known through several appearances on ORF television. In 2011 Goertz signed the memorandum Church 2011: A necessary departure . In January 2018 Goertz endorsed the proposal of Osnabrück Bishop Franz-Josef Bode to enable a liturgical blessing for same-sex couples .
