Stephan Kabelac (born March 10, 1958 in Bremen ) is a German scientist and professor at the Institute for Thermodynamics of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover .

Life

He is the son of geologists Fritz Kabelac and Irmgard Kabelac. After completing his school education between 1964 and 1977 in Hamburg, Luanda in Angola, Darien in the USA and Ahrensburg, he completed 14 months of military service in the German Armed Forces. In 1978 he began studying mechanical engineering at the University of Hanover, which he completed in 1983 with the academic degree of Diplom-Ingenieur. The first job followed as a research assistant at the Institute for Thermodynamics under the direction of Hans Dieter Baehr. During this time he wrote his dissertation entitled “The evaluation of the time behavior of finned cross-flow heat exchangers”, which was defended in 1987. He wrote his habilitation “On the Thermodynamics of Radiation” at the same institute and was able to successfully complete it in 1991.

For almost three years he then moved to the private sector to work as head of the thermal process engineering research group at Bayer AG . In 1994 he was appointed university professor and head of the Institute for Thermodynamics as the successor to HD Baehr in Hanover. In 2001 he took over the Institute for Thermodynamics at the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg. In 2011 he returned as head of the Institute for Thermodynamics at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover.

research

The current research areas of his institute range from the fundamentals of thermodynamics to energy conversion and material data to heat transfer .

The current research focus of the institute is thermodynamic cycle processes, fuel cells and water electrolysis, heat and mass transfer as well as nanofluids and thermophysical material data.

Teaching

The current courses range from basic lectures in thermodynamics, mixture and process thermodynamics to special lectures such as fuel cells and water electrolysis. The teaching principle "Chalk and Talk" is implemented in these courses. In addition to the chalk, electronic media are also integrated. In addition to the lectures, he is the dean of studies of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover.
