Stephan Klenner-Otto (born October 3, 1959 in Kulmbach , Upper Franconia) is a German artist.

life and work

Klenner-Otto trained as a draftsman and printer from 1975 to 1979. As early as 1976 he began with group and solo exhibitions. In 1982 he moved to Frickenhausen (Baden-Württemberg), followed by exhibitions in the Stuttgart area, northern Bavaria, Thuringia and Vienna in 1990. In 1993 he was a founding member of the artist group “das müller bundt” and three years later co-initiator of the nationwide art project “26. April 1986 ". On September 1, 1996 he moved to Neudrossenfeld. In 1998 he initiated the Neudrossenfeld sculpture exhibition and was a cultural sponsor that year. In the next few years he took part in numerous exhibitions. In 2005 Klenner-Otto was co-organizer of the Caspar Walter Rauh - exhibition in St. Petri in Kulmbach, in 2006 co-organizer and exhibitor of Thematica 2006 and two years later of Thematica 2008.

Klenner-Otto draws and etches on subjects such as Richard Wagner , Jean Paul , ETA Hoffmann , Goethe as well as bizarre, fantastic narrative pictures. He paints large formats for profane and clerical spaces, but the focus of his artistic activity is on etchings on literary topics. The artist, who was born in Kulmbach and who once looked over Caspar Walter Rauh's shoulder there, shares his preference for the subtle, fragile and bizarre. He paints and draws freely imagined heads that tend to become a horror cabinet of devastation and imprecation. When it comes to celebrities, he holds back in this regard, apart from his “Hoffmann (Suff)” and a Thomas Mann who turned him into a deformed caricature. But he emphatically demonstrates his mastery as a fabulous designer of physiognomies. In 1998 Klenner-Otto received the Kulmbach district's cultural promotion award.
