Stephan Neuhoff

Stephan Neuhoff (born August 19, 1952 in Cologne ) is a retired German firefighter . From 1989 to 2014 he was director of the Cologne fire department . He is considered to be one of the most renowned fire fighters in Germany.

After graduating from high school in 1971 at the Schiller High School in Cologne , Stephan Neuhoff studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen University , specializing in thermodynamics . From 1979 he completed training for the higher service in the fire brigade and was hired by the Cologne professional fire brigade in 1981. As the main person in charge of the Cologne fire brigade, he dealt with extraordinary missions such as the Rhine floods in 1993 and 1995 and the collapse of the Cologne city archive in 2009, but also major events such as the G8 summit in 1999 , the World Youth Day in 2005 and the games of the 2006 World Cup . After 35 years of service, he was ceremoniously retired from office in February 2014. The Lord Mayor of Cologne Jürgen Roters attested to him regarding the collapse of the archive, which Neuhoff himself had described as the most difficult mission of his career: "At a time when the citizens of our city were unsettled and frightened, you became a great person of trust."

In 1995, Neuhoff, father of eleven children and a committed Catholic, was elected to the Presidium of the Association for the Promotion of German Fire Protection , from 1991 to 2011 he was chairman of the Working Group of Heads of Professional Fire Brigades NRW (AGBF NRW). He is a lecturer at the Technical University of Cologne in the "Rescue Engineering " course and on the board of other professional associations. In 2011, the Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia , Ralf Jäger , awarded him the Fire Brigade Decoration of Honor of the special level in silver. He is the deputy chairman of the Association of Fire Brigades in North Rhine-Westphalia.
