Stephan Orth (* 1979 in Münster ) is a German journalist and book author .

Life

Stephan Orth studied English , psychology and economics in Wuppertal and journalism in Brisbane, Australia. From 2007 to 2008 he completed a traineeship at Spiegel Online and then worked there as an editor in the travel department.

Together with Antje Blinda, he published the book Sorry, we missed the runway , which reached number one on the paperback bestseller list.

In 2012 he took part in an inland ice expedition in Greenland in the footsteps of his grandfather Roderich Fick . He sent blog entries via satellite phone that appeared on Spiegel Online. Shortly afterwards he published the accompanying book Opas Eisberg .

This was followed in March 2015 by the book Couchsurfing im Iran , which was on the SPIEGEL bestseller list for over 70 weeks . In 2017, the successor Couchsurfing in Russia and the illustrated book Iran - a thousand and one contradiction appeared in collaboration with Mina Esfandiari and Samuel Zuder. Orth's books have been translated into more than ten languages. In July 2016, he quit his job at Spiegel Online and has been working as a freelancer ever since.
