Stephen Anderson (athlete)

Stephen Anderson ( Stephen Eugene "Steve" Anderson ; born April 10, 1906 in Portsmouth , Ohio , † August 2, 1988 in Seattle ) was an American hurdler who had specialized in the 110-meter distance .

In 1928 he qualified as US champion for the Olympic Games in Amsterdam , where he won the silver medal in 14.8 s behind the South African Sydney Atkinson and ahead of his compatriot John Collier (14.9 s).

In 1929 and 1930 he was again US champion over 120 yard hurdles and set the world record over this distance with 14.4 s when he won his second title. In 1929 he also won the national title over 220 yard hurdles. Starting for the University of Washington , he became NCAA champion over 220 yard hurdles in 1929 and over 120 yard hurdles in 1930.
