Stephen DeCesare

Stephen DeCesare (born May 14, 1969 in Rhode Island ) is an American composer and opera singer (tenor).

Life

DeCesare studied opera singing at Rhode Island College and has appeared in roles such as Rodolpho in La Bohème , Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and the title role in Phantom of the Opera in New York, New England, Florida and Europe. He has been the director of liturgy and music at Holy Cross Church in Providence for nearly twenty years .

As a composer, DeCesare is self-taught. In addition to around two hundred religious songs, he composed a requiem, orchestral pieces, six operas and more than twenty operettas, many of which had religious content. In total, his catalog of works includes over 800 compositions. His opera Our Lady Of Fatima had international success and, after its premiere in Providence, was performed at several opera houses in the USA and Europe as well as on the radio in the USA and Canada. On the occasion of the beatification of Pope John Paul II on May 1, 2011, EWTN broadcast a performance of his Mass of Divine Mercy under the direction of the composer.
