Stephen Ferris (born August 2, 1985 in Portadown , Northern Ireland ) is an Irish rugby union player who plays in the positions of winger and number eight . He is active for the Ulster region and the Irish national team .

Ferris began playing rugby when he was 13. He was admitted to the Ulsters Academy as a teenager and played in the Magners League for the first time in 2005 . With the U20 national team of Ireland, he took part in the World Cup for this age group in the same year. He made his debut for the men's national team in November 2006 against the Pacific Islanders and was part of the squad for the 2007 World Cup , but was not used. At the Irish Grand Slam at the Six Nations 2009 he was part of the starting line-up in all games and was consequently also considered for the tour of the British and Irish Lions to South Africa . However, he had to leave the Lions early due to a knee injury.
