Stephen Hughes (politician)

Stephen Hughes (born August 19, 1952 in Sunderland ) is a British (English) politician ( Labor Party ).

Life

Hughes graduated with a degree in local government in 1975 and subsequently worked in local government. As a member of the Labor Party , in addition to various party activities and trade union functions, from 1979 to 1984 he was assistant to European Parliament member Roland Boyes and delegate of the PSE to the Socialist International . Hughes has been a member of the European Parliament since 1984 . From 1994 to 1997 he was Chairman of the Committee on Social Affairs and Employment and then for two years Chairman of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs. In the European elections in 2009 , he got the best result for a Labor Party candidate in his constituency, North East England , nationwide.

Hughes is Deputy Chairman of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament and is active as a member or deputy in the following committees and delegations:

As a member of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee and the Delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China. As a deputy in the Committee on Culture and Education and in the delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
