Stephen Kondaks

Stephen Kondaks (born February 15, 1919 in Saloniki , † October 11, 2005 in Pointe-Claire ) was a Canadian violist and music teacher of Greek descent.

Kondaks studied from 1930 to 1936 with Harold Sumberg at the Toronto Conservatory of Music and from 1936 to 1938 with Sascha Jacobsen at the Juilliard School . This was followed by graduate studies at the Juilliard School with Hans Letz . From 1940 to 1942 he was a member of the McGill String Quartet and principal violist in the McGill Chamber Orchestra . Between 1947 and 1952 he attended courses from Louis Bailly at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec .

Kondaks has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral musician in numerous radio and television recordings. From 1963 he taught with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada , from 1967 to 1988 also at McGill University .
