Stephen Leaney (born March 10, 1969 in Busselton , Western Australia ) is an Australian professional golfer .

Career

He became a professional golfer in 1992 and initially turned successfully to the PGA Tour of Australasia , on which he had already won a tournament as an amateur the year before. From the 1998 season Leaney played regularly on the European Tour and in the first year had an impressive debut as eleventh on the money list and with two tournament victories. He stayed on this tournament series until 2003, won two more titles, including the prestigious German Masters 2002, and then tried - without being able to continue this successful series - on the North American PGA TOUR . A second place at the US Open in 2003 and a fourth place at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in 2004, where he was slightly defeated by Tiger Woods in the semifinals, should be emphasized .

Leaney was a member of the International Team at the Presidents Cup of 2003, and he represented his country in the Dunhill Cup in 1999 and 2000, and in the WGC World Cup in 2004.
