Stephen Mandel

Stephen Mandel (* 1945 ) is a Canadian politician and mayor of Edmonton since 2004 .

Mandel attended Lincoln College, Illinois and graduated from Miami University . He later studied at the University of Windsor, Ontario , where he received his Masters in Political Science. In 1972, Mandel moved from Windsor to Edmonton , Alberta .

In 2001, Mandel was elected to Edmonton City Council , the Edmonton City Council , and was one of twelve city councilors. In the 2004 mayoral election, he was able to prevail against incumbent Bill Smith and was the new mayor of the city. This makes him the first Jewish mayor of Edmonton.

Mandel has been married since 1973 and has two children. Mandel is a member of Reform Judaism .
