Stephen Paul

Stephen Paul (born June 8, 1972 in Herford ) is a German politician of the Free Democratic Party (FDP). He has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since June 2017 . Stephen Paul is in the 17th legislative period spokesman for building, housing and urban development of the FDP parliamentary group as well as spokesman for religion and churches.

Alongside Christian Dahm from the NRWSPD and Markus Wagner from the AfD, he is a member of the state parliament for the state electoral district of Herford I - Minden-Lübbecke III .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1991, Stephen Paul completed an apprenticeship as a banker at Sparkasse Herford from 1991 to 1994. At the same time he was an employee of a member of the Bundestag. From 1995 to 2001 Paul studied political science, communication science and applied cultural studies at the University of Münster. From 1999 to 2004 he worked as a freelance communications service provider. From 2002 to 2006 he worked again for a member of the Bundestag. From 2004 he worked as an independent consultant in a personnel development company. Paul ended this activity in May 2017 after moving into the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Political commitment

Paul joined the FDP and the youth organization Junge Liberale at the age of 17 in 1989. From 1993 to 2012 Stephen Paul was deputy district chairman of the FDP district of Herford. Since then he has led the district party. Since 1999 he has also been a member of the district council and chairman of the district parliamentary group. Stephen Paul intends to retain this position even after his election to the state parliament. Since 2004, the Herford-based member of the Landscape Assembly Westphalia-Lippe (LWL). From 2005 to 2017 he was parliamentary group leader of the FDP-FW parliamentary group in the LWL.

Stephen Paul has been a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia since June 1, 2017. Thematically, he wants to work primarily for the interests of his homeland Ostwestfalen-Lippe and the rural area. He was appointed spokesman for building, housing and urban development as well as spokesman for religion and churches by the FDP parliamentary group.

Paul lives in Herford. He is married and has two children.

Honorary positions / memberships in associations

Paul is a member of the board of trustees of the National Center for Reducing Administrative Costs at the Fachhochschule des Mittelstands GmbH. At the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, Herford is involved as a member of the "Standing Committee for Political Responsibility".

Stephen Paul is also an honorary assessor in the patient advice center at the Westphalia-Lippe Dental Association and the Westphalia-Lippe Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. In his home town of Herford he is a member of the board of directors of the Herford Clinic and a member of the special purpose association assembly of the Sparkasse Herford.

Stephen Paul is also deputy chairman of the Stifterverband Fridericianum eV; Assessor of the board in the association of former students of the Friedrichs-Gymnasium Herford eV and member of the friends of the frigate North Rhine-Westphalia.
