The Nicolaus Copernicus Observatory of the Jagiellonian University (Polish Obserwatorium Astronomiczne im. Mikołaja Kopernika Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego ) in Krakow is an observatory at ul. Orla 171 at Wolski Forest in the Zakamycze district ( Wola Justowska ). It is located in Fort 38 Skała of the Kraków Fortress .

history

The observatory was established in 1792 and was initially located in the Collegium Śniadeckiego at ul. Mikołaja Kopernika 27 in Kraków's inner city, Wesoła district . An observatory was set up at Fort 38 Skała as early as the 1920s, but it was burned down by the German occupiers in 1944. The new observatory at Fort 38 Skała has been in operation since 1953.
