The Wartenberg Castle (Polish: Zamek w Przegorzałach ) in Krakow is a castle at Ulica Jodłowa 13 on Wolski Forest in the Przegorzały district .

history

From 1928 to 1929 , Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz built the Villa Baszta on the Przegorzały rock, previously acquired by the Camaldolese monastery . The villa was confiscated by the German occupiers in 1940 and Lieutenant General Otto Wächter moved into it. Wächter also had the Wartenberg Castle designed by Szyszko-Bohusz, which was built next to the villa from 1942 to 1943, but was moved to Lemberg in 1942 before completion and the building was initially empty. Governor General Hans Frank made Heinrich Himmler , the castle during his visit in Krakow in 1943 to the present, which it to a sanatorium for the SS Luftwaffe certain and officers. The castle was to be connected to the Vistula valley with a cable car, which was not implemented. The castle was used as a hospital at the end of 1944. On January 18, 1945, it was occupied by the Red Army. The building is currently used by the Jagiellonian University . The lower floors are leased to catering establishments (restaurants, cafes).

The view from the castle to the south extends to the Tatras and the Babia Góra massif .

The nature reserve Skałki Przegorzalskie is located below the castle . The Jagiellonian University guest house is located above the castle.
