Steve Abana

Steve William Abana (* 1969 ) is a politician of the Solomon Islands .

biography

After attending school he studied tropical agriculture at the University of the South Pacific and graduated with a diploma . Subsequently, he was Managing Director of the company Anolpha Enterprises .

Abana began his political career as a candidate for the Democratic Party with the election of a member of parliament, in which he has represented the constituency of Fataleka in the province of Malaita since April 5, 2006 after his re-election in 2010 . Dor he was initially a member of the Committee on Legislation and Legislation from May to June 2006 and then from June to October a member of the Public Budget Committee.

On October 16, 2006, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare appointed him to a government for the first time as Minister for National Planning and Aid Coordination and was a member of Sogavare's cabinet until November 10, 2007. On December 21, 2007, Prime Minister Derek Sikua reappointed him as Minister for National Planning and Aid Coordination.

In the general elections in August 2010 , his Democratic Party won a majority of the vote and 11 of the 50 seats in parliament. After the election victory, he was seen as a possible candidate for the office of prime minister. However, former Foreign Minister Danny Philip was elected Prime Minister by Parliament as Prime Minister. Abana himself then became opposition leader and, as such, is both prime minister and public minister in the shadow cabinet .
