Steve Carl (* in Albert Lea , Minnesota , as Steve Carl Leuthold ) is an American rockabilly musician.

Life

Steve Carl was born in the town of Albert Lea, where Eddie Cochran grew up. In the spring of 1955, Carl formed the Hot Rockin 'Four , which included Mike Pederson ( guitar ) and Dick Strensrud ( bass ), among others . About a year later, Carl and his band traveled - without Strensrud, who was unable to attend - to Minneapolis , Minnesota, where they made their first recordings in the Kay Bank studio, which included Curfew .

In May 1956, after a concert by his idol Carl Perkins , Carl was able to speak to Perkins, who invited him to Memphis , Tennessee , where his label Sun Records was based. Carl and his band presented their demo recordings to the owner Sam Phillips , but he showed no interest as he was in the process of producing Johnny Cash . But he recommended her to Lester Bihari, who headed Meteor Records in Memphis . After Carl visited Meteor and seen the sparse equipment in the studio, he left Memphis again without holding a session. He left the demos with Meteor.

It wasn't until a year later that Lester Bihari released the recording of Curfew together with 18 Year Old Blues under the name Steve Carl with the Jags . It was the label's last release and accordingly had little success. Carl recorded another single for Soma Records before graduating from college and moving to Minneapolis to pursue a career in finance. The remaining four demos by Steve Carl and his band were released on a bison bop LP in 1983.
