Steve Rude (born December 31, 1956 in Madison , Wisconsin) is an American comic artist .

Life and work

After Rude began working as a full-time comic book artist in the late 1970s, he experienced his artistic breakthrough in 1982 with the philosophical science fiction comic Nexus , which he had devised together with the author Mike Baron . The series, which quickly became a great success both commercially and artistically, differed from the great mass of sci-fi comics of the time due to the way it addressed difficult topics such as guilt or justice, as well as its complex narrative structure .

Nexus had a total of eighty issues before the title was discontinued as a regular series, which was later followed by seven self-contained miniseries. Rude designed a large part, if not all of the drawings of the booklets that appeared under the Nexus label. For his work on Nexus , Rude, who is known for his sleek, 1960s-style drawing style, eventually won four Eisner Awards , a Kirby Award and the Russ Manning Award.

In 2006 Rude started his own drawing studio, Rude Dude Productions , which he used as a platform for the publication of his own creation , the series The Moth , which he originally developed in 2004 and whose first issues were published by Dark Horse Comics , as well as for a number of new Nexus - Uses stories.
