Simão Mate Junior (born July 23, 1988 in Inhaca ), called Simão , is a Mozambican football player who plays in defensive midfield .

Career

Simão began his football career with Ferroviário Maputo in Mozambique , where he played until 2007. In August 2007 Simão completed a trial training session at the traditional Greek club Panathinaikos Athens and was able to convince those responsible to sign him.

Simão made his first competitive appearance for Panathinaikos on September 20, 2007 during the UEFA Cup match at Artmedia Bratislava , which Athens won 2-1. Simão made his first appearance in the Greek Super League in the 1-0 away win at Iraklis Thessaloniki on December 9, 2007.

On August 13, 2008 Simão scored his first goal in a European game. In the third qualifying round for the UEFA Champions League , he scored the 2-1 lead for Panathinaikos in the 60th minute of the away encounter against Sparta Prague .

From March 2013 to the end of August 2016 Simão played for the Spanish first division club Levante UD . Completed 92 missions for the club. After the end of his contract he was without a contract and without a club until mid-2017.

In the summer of 2017, Al-Ahli SC from Doha signed him. With the club he played in the country's first division, the Qatar Stars League . After the end of his contract in October 2018, he was without a club until the end of December 2018.

At the beginning of 2019 he moved to Japan . Here he signed a contract with Vegalta Sendai . The Sendai club played in the country's highest league, the J1 League .
