Steve Scheffler

Stephen Robert "Steve" Scheffler (born September 3, 1967 in Grand Rapids ) is a retired American basketball player .

career

Scheffler had a successful time as a student at Purdue University . The 2.06 meter tall indoor player played 110 games, in which he scored an average of 10.5 points and 4.9 rebounds. In the summer of 1989 he won the summer universiade in Duisburg with the US selection . The student national team was supervised by Gene Keady , Scheffler's trainer at Purdue University.

In particular in the 1989/90 season he drew attention, came for Purdue on 16.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per use and was named Player of the Year at the Big Ten Conference . With a field throw rate of 68.5 percent during his four years as a member of the university team, Scheffler set a record for Purdue University. He drew the interest of NBA teams, the Charlotte Hornets secured the rights to Scheffler in the NBA draft process in 1990, who was called in 39th place in the second selection round.

Between 1990 and 1997, Scheffler played 174 NBA games. Most (124) he played for the Seattle SuperSonics , with which he was under contract from 1992 to 1997. At the beginning of his professional time he was a player for the Charlotte Hornets (1990/91), in the season 1991/92 he played a few games for the Sacramento Kings , then for the Denver Nuggets , but spent most of the time in the Continental Basketball Association  (CBA) for the Quad City Thunder team (41 games: 14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds per use). In the NBA, Scheffler remained a supplementary player, his best point value in a season was 2.3 per game, achieved in 1992/93 in Seattle dress. With the same team he stood in 1995/96 at the side of Shawn Kemp , Gary Payton and Detlef Schrempf in the NBA final series, but lost to the Chicago Bulls .

In the 1998/99 season he was in the CBA again under contract in Quad City, he also played 13 games for the Yakima Sun Kings that year .

He is the younger brother of Tom Scheffler .
