Bergman Buildings Foundation on Fårö

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bergman Buildings Foundation on Fårö (Stiftelsen Bergmangårdarna på Fårö) is a Norwegian foundation with the task of running a cultural center in the buildings on the Swedish island of Fårö, which were formerly inhabited and used by the Swedish director and writer Ingmar Bergman . The director is Kerstin Brunnberg, former CEO of Swedish Radio.

history

The foundation was established in 2009 in connection with the planned sale of four Bergman properties on Fårö (Hammars, Ängen, Dämba and Skrivarstugan) to the Norwegian financier Hans Gude Gudesen. Gudesen undertook to maintain the building and to leave it to the foundation that had been established for the long term. In accordance with the purpose of the foundation, the foundation should be an international meeting place for performing and visual artists as well as scientists who should receive work grants. You will be able to live in the buildings free of charge. Festivals, seminars and activities for children and young people will also take place. Among other things, an annual winter festival is planned. The public activities should take place at the usual meeting places in Gotland, for example in the church and the old school of Fårö.

Bergman's daughter Linn Ullmann took the initiative for this. The activities began in autumn 2010. Originally, the previous program and planning director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hanns Rodell, was to be appointed artistic director in 2010. Contrary to this earlier announcement, Jannike Åhlund finally took over this position on August 1, 2010. Since its inception, the foundation has participated in the annual Ingmar Bergman Week on Fårö, which takes place every summer. In the summer and autumn of 2011, twelve scholarship holders were funded, including the German director Thomas Knauf. Jannike Åhlund moved full-time to the Bergman Center on Fårö in spring 2012.
