history

The foundation was established in June 2013 by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . This promotes education, science and innovation in its fields of action. The Berlin entrepreneur Arend Oetker has been Chairman of the Board of the Education and Society Foundation since 2013 . In addition to the start-up financing by the Stifterverband and the income from the foundation capital, the foundation is mainly financed from donations.

Focus and goals

The aim of the foundation is to permanently change the everyday educational life of children and young people. It moves in all areas of education that are enriched by civil society actors. The work of these actors is disseminated and promoted in order to set impulses for more engagement in education. The foundation supports the initiatives through financial support, through offers for further development and through the network of the Stifterverband. The annual funding volume is currently around 250,000 euros. The foundation is active nationwide.

activities

Primus Prize

Since October 2013, the Education and Society Foundation has been awarding the Primus Prize each month to an educational project with a role model. With the Primus Prize, the foundation honors civil society initiatives that are committed and in partnership with local actors and institutions to address a specific challenge in the education system. In this way, projects worth emulating are to be supported and made known nationwide. The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros. From all the award-winning projects in a year, the leader of the year is chosen by means of SMS voting. The first-placed project wins 3,000 euros in prize money, while the second and third-placed projects each receive 1,000 euros.

From December 2016 to the end of 2017, the foundation awarded the special Primus Grenzenlos quarterly, which supports educational projects for refugee and immigrant children. In 2018 it was replaced by the special Primus Digital, which is awarded to projects that prepare children and young people for life in a digital world. It is also awarded quarterly and is endowed with 1,000 euros in prize money. Award-winning initiatives receive an additional 500 euros for further training. Applications for the Primus and Special Primus Prize are possible on an ongoing basis.

German teacher forum

The Education and Society Foundation is a member of the consortium of the German Teachers' Forum, an independent initiative to promote nationwide exchange and networking as well as the appreciation and commitment of committed teachers. The German Teachers' Forum is aimed at teachers, trainee teachers, student teachers and young teachers of all subjects and school types. It is a self-designed platform to develop the work as a teacher in a friendly atmosphere, to formulate recommendations for action and to spread ideas. After it started in 2015 as a two-day pilot event, it was continued in 2016 with a thematic focus on “Diversity in School”. In September 2017 it took place for the third time under the theme "School in the digital age". The fourth edition in September 2018 is dedicated to the main topic "Teaching and learning for the 21st century". The German Teachers' Forum is organized and financially supported by the Heraeus Education Foundation , Stiftung Mercator , Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft , Stiftung Bildung und Gesellschaft, Teach First Deutschland , Wübben Foundation and Schöpflin Foundation . The Foundation for Education and Society coordinates all activities relating to the German Teachers' Forum.
