The Schöpflin Foundation is a regional and nationwide active non-profit foundation under civil law from Lörrach , which supports younger and future generations in the areas of prevention , education and civil society engagement .

history

Hans Schöpflin, his brother Albert Schöpflin and his sister Heidi Junghanns are the children of the entrepreneur and honorary citizen of Lörrach Hans Schöpflin . After World War II, he set up the Schöpflin mail order company , which was taken over by Quelle in 1964 . His son Hans Schöpflin has been earning money as a venture capitalist since the 1980s .

After Hans Schöpflin's son Alexander died in 1995, he first founded the Panta Rhea Foundation in 1998 in his home town of California, before returning to his home town of Lörrach in 2001 and setting up the Schöpflin Foundation together with his siblings.

Villa Schöpflin was set up on the grounds of the parents' house in 2002, followed by the Schöpflin children's and gardener's house in 2004, and the Schöpflin workshop in 2011. The “Fabric” area has been under development since 2017.

The foundation is also active throughout Germany.

Board of Directors and Advisory Board

Founding board member and chairman of the board is Hans Schöpflin. Tim Göbel, co-founder and former Vice President of Zeppelin University, has been the managing director of the Schöpflin Foundation since April 2016.

The siblings Albert Schöpflin and Heidi Junghanns sit on the advisory board, as well as Gudrun Heute-Bluhm , Rüdiger Merz, Ingo Michelsen and Felicitas von Peter.

Villa Schöpflin

The Villa Schöpflin was founded as a center for drug and alcohol prevention. In the meantime, she is also doing educational and preventive work in the area of ​​gambling and digital media.

Schöpflin children's and gardener's house

The Schöpflin Kinderhaus is a Montessori kindergarten in the Villa Schöpflin park, while the Schöpflin Gardener House is an offer for primary school children. Both houses are intended to offer an idyllic place for childhood as a positive influence on development.

Schöpflin workshop

The Werkraum Schöpflin is intended to be a place for culture and debate and, as a “house of unrest”, enrich social life in Lörrach.

Fabric

“Fabric - planning as a platform” is a strategy developed by the Hamburg concept artist Christoph Schäfer to test a new type of urban development. In a grassroots democratic process, an entire district is being redeveloped on the fallow area across from Villa Schöpflin.

Promotional activity

In 2019, the Schöpflin Foundation funded a total of 54 projects and initiatives in five different funding areas with funding amounts between € 1,500 and € 250,000 per year.

Escape & Integration

In the area of ​​flight and integration, the Schöpflin Foundation focuses primarily on the issues of labor market integration and education in order to enable the long-term integration of refugees. Among the largest recipients of funding are Kiron Open Higher Education , Social-Bee and the SchlaU workshop .

Non-profit journalism

The Schöpflin Foundation promotes non-profit journalism as a "supplement to public and private publishing journalism". Well-known projects are primarily Investigate Europe , Correctiv , FragDenStaat , Phineo and the research network

Schöpflin biotope

The Schöpflin Biotope should be a “think tank for future topics” and enable experiments. The most renowned projects include the Maxim-Gorki-Theater , the Social Entrepreneurship Network Germany and the Center for Political Beauty .

Economy & Democracy

In the business and democracy funding area, the foundation supports initiatives that make a contribution to the further development of democracy or help limit the power of corporations against the civilian population.

The best-known funding projects include AlgorithmWatch , HateAid , Mehr Demokratie , the Citizens 'Council Democracy , the citizens' movement Finanzwende , foodwatch , Lobbycontrol , the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights and the Maxim-Gorki-Theater .

School & Development

In the school and development funding area, the foundation promotes innovative approaches in the areas of creativity and participation , as well as institution and innovation . The largest funding projects include Das macht Schule , ProjectTogether and Teach First Germany .

Former grants

Well-known former funding projects include the Ashoka Foundation Germany, Education Y , Joblinge , Start with a Friend , Über den Tellerrand and the European campaign platform WeMove .

Foundation assets

According to the articles of association, the share capital of the Schöpflin Foundation is € 100,000, plus property in the form of the foundation's land and buildings. The annual funds of the foundation are generated from the entrepreneurial activities of Hans Schöpflin.
