Education Foundation
The Education Foundation is a non-profit, legal foundation under civil law based in Berlin . It advocates better educational conditions for children and young people and the strengthening of civil society engagement in the field of education.
history
The foundation sees itself as a basic organization for civil society engagement in schools and kindergartens. It was founded in September 2012 with the aim of improving the work of the daycare and school development associations through coordination, advice, exchange and the offer of seminars. In the background stands the strengthening of civil society engagement in this area. It emerged from the Germany-wide network of school and preschool support associations and their associations, such as the Federal Association of Support Associations (BFD) and the Federal Association of Kita and School Support Associations (BSFV).
Goals and way of working
The overarching goal of the foundation is to improve the educational conditions at schools and day care centers in Germany as a whole. Social equilibrium and the diversity of education, such as youth participation, are to be promoted through individual projects. In children and young people, creativity and initiative should be stimulated in order to convey enthusiasm for education. The foundation focuses on building a comprehensive network. The needs, peculiarities and necessities of the local educational institutions should be recorded directly in order to be able to adapt the development and implementation of educational offers to the specific location.
Organization and financing
The patron of the Foundation for Education is Gesine Schwan . The founding donors include the associations of school and daycare sponsoring associations, the sponsoring associations themselves, as well as non-profit companies and committed private individuals. Its office is located in the Palais am Festungsgraben in Berlin. The Education Foundation was set up on a voluntary basis and was able to set up full-time positions for the first time at the beginning of 2014, although the dual structure of full-time and honorary positions is to be retained in the future. The foundation is financed through private donations, endowments from the state and federal associations of school development associations, as well as endowments from the fundraising portal Bildungsspender and grants from the Karl Schlecht Foundation . She is a member of the Federal Association of German Foundations , the Paritätisches Landesverband Berlin and the Federal Network for Civic Engagement . It has committed to disclosing its source, use and personnel structure through the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .
Since 2016 it has been the sponsor of the federal program “People Strengthen People” of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth . Within this framework, the Foundation for Education initiates sponsorships between children and young people with and without refugee experience and supports the expansion of state associations of daycare and school development associations nationwide in order to strengthen volunteers.
The foundation has been implementing the youth participation project youpaN since 2017 . youpaN is the youth forum in which young people participate in the implementation of the National Action Plan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
