The youpan (proper spelling youpan) is the Youth Panel for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Germany and consists of 25 members between the ages of 16 and 26.

YoupaN has the task of involving young people in the implementation of the national ESD action plan. The youth committee was created as part of the UNESCO World Action Program ESD of the 2030 Agenda and is involved in its implementation in cooperation with various specialist forums and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). YoupaN is also committed to effective and effective youth participation in the ESD process.

Project details

The youpan is part of the nationwide GNI youth Beteiligungs represented by the project, Foundation for Education is reacted with agents of the BMBF. The project, founded in 2017, consists of YoupaN and youcoN and youinfO . The youcoN is an annual conference for 150 young people, the participants continue their education on the sustainability and ESD and can become active. About youinfO , young people can obtain information digitally via ESD and sustainability. The implementation of the project is the responsibility of the youth participation office of the Education Foundation.

YoupaN was significantly involved in the design of the Agenda Congress 2017 in Berlin. In numerous workshops, actors from the German ESD landscape exchanged views on how they want to bring the National ESD Action Plan to life. Every year the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) organizes what is known as an agenda congress. This nationwide event is a forum for technical discussions and new ideas on the subject of education for sustainable development (ESD). The congress is aimed at actors and initiatives who want to put ESD into practice and at the members of the bodies that implement the global ESD program of action in Germany. The participants have the opportunity to exchange ideas, network and work together to promote the anchoring of ESD.

The YoupaN has drawn up nine demands and represented them in public since it was founded. These include a .:

  • “An improvement in youth participation at all levels, through more appreciation for voluntary work and the implementation of youth councils in the state and municipality.
  • A consideration of ESD and SDGs in structures, processes and institutions, the actors involved and our society as well as in an international context.
  • A critical examination of institutions, systems and especially the economic system and their contribution to the implementation of ESD and the SDGs. "
