Thawan Duchanee

Thawan Duchanee ( Thai ถวัลย์ ดัชนี , RTGS transcription Thawan Datchani , pronunciation: [tʰàʔwǎn dàtt͡ɕʰániː] ; born September 27, 1939 in Chiang Rai ; † September 3, 2014 in Bangkok ) was a Thai modern , Buddhist artist.

Thawan Dutchanee began his artistic training in 1954 at the “Poh Chang Arts and Crafts College” in Bangkok. From 1958 to 1963 he studied with Silpa Bhirasri , the "father of modern art in Thailand", at Silpakorn University . From 1964 to 1968 he was able to deepen his knowledge of western art traditions during his studies at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam .

In 2001 he was honored with the Thai National Artist Award.
