Gerlacianum Scholarship Foundation
The more than 400 years old Foundation Gerlacianum is an East Frisian legacy based on the will of Sibrandus Gerlacchius from Grimersum , East Frisia .
Two days before his death on January 22nd, 1600 - at the age of 32 - Gerlacchius ordered the descendants of the paternal and maternal families who wanted to study on a scholarship before witnesses in the house of the then mayor Luppe Sicken of the city of Emden to promote.

The will also gives an answer to the possibility that no descendants study:

Sibrandus Gerlacchius also considered the necessary succession of the will administrators appointed by him. So it says:

His will for the promotion of students has since been fulfilled by the Foundation's Board of Trustees.
The foundation's assets mainly consist of land in East Frisia , including real estate that was originally donated. More recently, the foundation's assets have also been supplemented by various endowments, which were made primarily by former scholarship holders or friends of the foundation connected to them.
