Stiller Kamerad is a documentary by Leonhard Hollmann. The film tells of two traumatized soldiers and a female soldier who fail the traditional forms of therapy offered by the Bundeswehr. On a Brandenburg farm, the therapist Claudia Swierczek helps them back to life with the help of horses .

The documentary “Quiet Comrade” is about soldiers who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after their war missions . This triggered pronounced anxiety states in the patient. Conventional therapies did not help. So three soldiers started a therapy with horses, which was ultimately successful.
Film festivals
Stiller Kamerad celebrated its world premiere at the Hof International Film Festival 2017, where it was nominated for the GRANIT documentary film award. Other festivals were the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival (GOLDEN KEY competition), the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival , the Munich International Documentary Film Festival (nominated for the Student Award) , the Independent FilmFest Osnabrück , the exground Filmfest in Wiesbaden and the Equus Filmfest 2018 in New York.
Film awards
In 2018, Stiller Kamerad won the Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award ( Eberhard Fechner Award) in the “Best Documentary” category. The jury justified their decision as follows: “Free of a formulaic format language, the classic observational film approaches a topic that at first glance seems unspectacular. The therapeutic treatment of traumatized members of the armed forces with the help of horses is told in pictures of a soothing calm. The filmmaker manages to get unusually close to the protagonists. An outstanding documentary that confronts viewers with many new insights and unforgettable, touching images. "
The film won the Horses Helping Humans Award at the EQUUS Film Festival in New York.
