Stockholm Arts and Crafts Exhibition 1909
The Stockholm Arts and Crafts Exhibition 1909 ( Swedish Konstindustriutställningen 1909 ) was an exhibition on Djurgården in Stockholm . It lasted from June 4 to September 30, 1909 and was only open to Swedish exhibitors.
The exhibition was intended to provide an overview of the achievements of local handicrafts and arts and crafts . As with the Stockholm exhibition in 1897 , Ferdinand Boberg was the main architect. He also designed the exhibition catalog. Because of Boberg's fondness for bright colors, the exhibition district was called the White City . King Gustav V was the patron of the exhibition . His brother, Prince Eugene , who himself was an artist , was honorary chairman and court director Carl Bendix, exhibition commissioner. The show was all about electricity . The seating in the restaurant exhibition consisted of bentwood chairs, copies of Michael Thonet "chair no. 14" were from 1859. The event was supposed to end on September 15th, but has been extended to the end of September.
A little later, Ferdinand Boberg designed the Baltic Exhibition in Malmö in 1914 as the last of his major exhibitions .
