The bulk carrier type B521 (other spelling also B-521 ) of the shipyard Stocznia Gdynia was built in series during the 1970s.

history

The B521 series was designed in the late 1960s and the first units were initially delivered to the Polish shipping company Polska Żegluga Morska from 1970 . Later, the units were also built for various Western European shipping companies, for example in Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. The Ahrenkiel Group from Hamburg was the end of the series also has two units, one bulk carrier and a combined mining and car carriers. The bulk carrier was baptized in the name of Boldt's Corps Masovia due to the close connection between the Düsseldorf lawyer Herbert Boldt (1909–2008) and the shipping company Ahrenkiel .

Technical details

The B521 basic design was designed as bulk carriers with superstructures arranged aft . They had ten holds , each served by its own hatch. The ships of the type had a deadweight capacity of around 55,000 tons and with a maximum unloading of 12.50 m. The units were designed to transport various bulk goods , such as grain, coal and minerals. The tank roof of the cargo holds was also reinforced for the transport of ore. In the years of production, the type was further developed and modernized in details. For the Swedish Wallenius Lines and another shipping company, even three of the ships were redesigned by the shipyard before construction began and delivered as combined ore and car transporters (3500 cars + 45,000 tons of ore). The two Wallenius ships were later converted again into pure car transporters and one of these ships was scrapped relatively early. The remaining Wallenius ship and the other auto ore combination ship were converted back to conventional bulk carriers after they were later sold.

The ships are powered by a two - stroke diesel engine . The engine enables a speed of around 15  knots . Several auxiliary diesels and an emergency diesel generator are available.
