Stompie Mavi
Zakhele Mzingisi Patrick "Stompie" Mavi (born April 21, 1955 in Ngqanakhwe , Queenstown , † January 17, 2008 in Port Elizabeth ) was a South African pop and jazz singer .
Stompie Mavi, who was active in the Port Elizabeth music scene , started out as a soloist with classical music at the age of seven. a. by Joseph Haydn and Georg Handel . At the age of 16 he sang with the Modern Jazz Sextet . In the late 1970s he presented his debut album Manyano (Oneness) after touring with Jimmy Cliff . In the early 1980s he appeared in the opening act for Frank Sinatra in Sun City ; Injuries in a robbery in 1987 led to paraplegia and interrupted his career for several years, which ended in 2007 due to illness.
