Henry Stoning

Henry Stoning , also Stonings , Stenings , Stoninge , Stonynge or Stoninges , (* 16th century; † 17th century, effective late 16th century to early 17th century) was an English composer of the Renaissance.

life and work

Virtually no biographical data are known of Stoning. Anthony Wood and John Hawkins describe him as a well-known musician who lived during the reigns of Elizabeth I and King James I of England .

Stoning's polyphonic works for violas have a solemn, elegant, quasi-vocal style.
