from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Store medisinske leksikon (SML; Norwegian Large Medical Lexicon ), formerly known as Kunnskapsforlagets Store medisinske leksikon , is a Norwegian medical lexicon and online encyclopedia.

History and description

The lexicon was first published in one edition with a total of five volumes from 2006 to 20007 by the Norwegian publisher Kunnskapsforlaget . During this period Magne Nylenna was the main editor, previously editor and publisher of the Norwegian medical journal Tidsskrift for Den norske legeforening and as a professor of social medicine at the University of Oslo . The editorial team also included people with a professional background, such as Harald Arnesen, Anton Hauge, Marit Kirkevold and Ellen Schlichting, and Nils Gundersen was appointed as the project manager. The medisinske leksikon (SML) store contains around 13,000 articles of varying sizes. The articles in the medisinske leksikon store contain information about the basics of medicine, everything about diseases including their diagnosis, therapy, rehabilitation and prevention, medical technologies, social medicine and medical history. In addition, biographies of well-known doctors, scientists, researchers, medical professionals and other well-known and important people from this spectrum are published in the lexicon. In the lexicon, many entries and articles have a large focus or specificity on Norway.

Under the title Kunnskapsforlagets Store medisinske leksikon , the SML was put online free of charge and freely accessible to everyone in 2009 in an internet version of the Kunnskapsforlaget and linked to the website of the norske leksikon store . Important and new findings on the existing entries are incorporated through additions or the existing articles are revised. In addition, newly created articles are entered in the encyclopedia and put online. All changes and new articles are checked in advance by knowledgeable staff and scientists before they are published. In 2013, a separate, new search mask for updating and editing was introduced in the online version of the medisinske leksikon store. Since 2010 the SML has also been owned by Store norske leksikon AS . This now operates under the name Foreningen Store norske leksikon (Association of the Great Norwegian Lexicons) after the whole project was converted into a non-profit association in 2014. In addition to the store medisinske leksikon , the Norsk Kunstnerleksikon , the store norske leksikon and the Norsk biografisk leksikon, the association also operates. At the same time, all works are represented in the online versions of the various Norwegian encyclopedias on a common web platform and are mutually linked.
