Stornoway was an English indie band from Oxford .

Band history

The band was founded in the mid-2000s by four Oxford students. They made first publications, including the Good Fish Guide , a song in which threatened and sufficiently available fish species are listed. The proceeds went to the Marine Conservation Society .

Her breakthrough had Stornoway, which after the Scottish island town of Stornoway have named, in 2009. In the Big Weekend on BBC Radio 1 , they were one of the headliners. The BBC forecast Sound of 2010 then predicted the breakthrough for the following year.

In 2010 they were represented at the Glastonbury Festival . To do this, they worked on their debut album Beachcomber's Windowsill , which was released in June and rose to number 14 on the charts. With the song Zorbing , which came from their first EP, they also had a single hit in the British charts.

On October 25, 2016, the band announced on Facebook that they would split up after a farewell tour in February and March 2017. Decisive for this are personal reasons of the individual members.
