The flow safety device ( StröSi for short ) is a component belonging to a gas fireplace and is therefore a device with which combustion in a thermal bath ( storey heating system or combined boiler ) or in a boiler is maintained even in adverse weather conditions; the flame does not go out.

The flow protection is located behind the flue gas nozzle of the fireplace in the connection between the boiler or thermal bath (i.e. all devices in group B) to the chimney or to the flue gas pipe. The flow protection is used in gas fireplaces with burners without a fan.

Due to the design, the exhaust gas is returned to the installation room past the burner in the event of a backflow in the exhaust pipe. If the chimney is too buoyant , the combustion air is also drawn out of the room past the burner without impairing the flame and its air supply.

The congestion in the exhaust pipe or in the chimney is mostly caused by the weather, but it can also be caused by other, external obstacles.

The flow protection is designed differently for thermal baths and boilers. In thermal baths it consists of a baffle plate or sheet metal aprons, on a boiler it is the open extension of the flue gas pipe down into the installation room.

If the exhaust gas is discharged for a longer period of time, the back-flowing exhaust gases cause the exhaust gas monitoring device to respond after a short time (approx. 2 minutes), which automatically switches off the gas supply to the fireplace. However, only if the fireplace is equipped with this and the AÜE works.

Devices with StröSi must comply with protection goals 1 and 2.
