The history of the Straßburg-Passage goes back to the founding of the company by Otto Straßburg in 1887. The specialty shop for linen and cotton goods, curtains, Geraer clothing fabrics and dowry items of all kinds was opened in Berliner Straße 7 . The business grew rapidly and so the area was expanded over the years by renting and buying. In 1907, Otto Strasbourg was able to realize his long-cherished ideas and, through renewed expansion, establish the connection to the parallel Jakobstrasse. The design for the passage crossing the property between the two street fronts came from the Görlitz architect Gerhard Röhr . After the first groundbreaking in June 1908, the opening took place after a construction period of six months.

After the war the passage was expropriated , but as the " HO -Passage" it was able to maintain its high status within Görlitz until the fall of the Berlin Wall .

The grandson of the company founder , Wolfgang Straßburg, took over the passage after the fall of the Wall in 1990 and tried to revitalize it. In coordination with the preservation of monuments , a historic shopping center was created that takes into account the technical and logistical requirements of modern sales facilities.

On May 4, 2019, a memorial plaque for Otto Strasbourg was unveiled in the floor of the entrance from Berliner Straße.
