Tram station Naußlitz

The Naußlitz tram station is a former tram depot in the Naußlitz district of Dresden , which is now used as a shopping center. As one of the few industrial buildings in Art Nouveau style in Dresden, the building is a listed building.

history

The Naußlitz tram station was built between 1899 and 1902 according to plans by the architect Edmund Körner and was inaugurated on April 1, 1902. The client was the Dresdner Straßenbahn Gesellschaft, the predecessor of today's Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB). The building, clad with a red brick facade, at Kesselsdorfer Straße  81 / junction Koblenzer Straße / Wendel-Hipler-Straße consists of a multi-storey administration building and the former car hall on Koblenzer Straße. This originally offered space for around 60 vehicles and was expanded again in 1926 and 1938/39.

The building suffered severe damage in the air raid in 1945 , but could be used again the following year after an emergency repair. Most recently, the former tram station was used to park DVB buses until it was closed in 1996 . After the sale to a private group of investors, the building was converted into a shopping center. Only the outer walls of the former wagon hall remained, while the interior was converted into a modern supermarket. There is a parking deck on the roof. Since 2005, the renovated former administration building has housed smaller retail units, offices, medical practices and apartments.
