The law to supplement the Criminal Code (Criminal Law Supplementation Act) was passed in the GDR on December 11, 1957 and came into force on February 1, 1958 . As a "supplement", the law contained significant changes to the modified form of the Reich Penal Code . As an essential part of an action program decided on at the 33rd session of the Central Committee of the SED , it introduced the new types of punishment conditional conviction , public censure and dangerousness to society into criminal law.

Further changes by the Criminal Law Amendment Act:

  • Introduction of eleven state crimes
  • Introduction of substantive military criminal law
  • Amendment of the law to protect domestic German trade
  • Repeal of the law for the protection of public property (VESchG) of 1952
  • Introduction of the extended participation of lay judges in criminal proceedings outside of the main hearing.
