history
2017: Creation as part of a reality show
In August 2017, JYP Entertainment officially announced that the agency's new survival show would create a boy band. In the following two months, more information and teasers were released, including the survival show's title - Stray Kids .
Before their debut, they released their first music video for the song Hellevator , which was later released as a digital single.
The Stray Kids show began on October 17, 2017. During the show, two members - Felix and Lee Know - were temporarily excluded. They were later included again and so all nine members were also part of the final formation.
2018: Mixtape , I am NOT, I am WHO and I am YOU
After creating the official website, JYP Entertainment announced the pre-debut EP Mixtape . This EP contains seven tracks, the lyrics and melodies of which were largely written by the members, including "Hellevator" and other songs they played during the survival show. In addition to this EP, the music video for the second track - Beware (Grrr 총량 의 법칙 ) - and a week later the music video for Spread My Wings ( 어린 날개 ) were released on January 8th . Mixtape debuted at number 2 on the Gaon Albums Chart and the Billboard World Albums .
On March 5, JYP Entertainment gave the group's debut performance entitled Stray Kids Unveil: Op. 01: I am NOT known, which took place on March 25th in the Jangchun Arena . Stray Kids released their debut album - I am Not - the day after. On March 26th, the music video for the title track District 9 was also released, which broke the record for the most-viewed K-pop debut music video with 4,274,649 views within 24 hours. On March 30th, the music video for Grow Up ( 잘 하고 있어 ) was uploaded. The music video for Mirror was released on April 22nd.
On August 5, 2018, the comeback stage Stray Kids Unveil: Op. 02: I took place at WHO . Stray Kids released their new album I am Who along with the music video for the title track My Pace a day later. Little by little, music videos were released for all tracks on the new album I am WHO . On August 12th Insomnia (Street Ver.) Was uploaded, on August 15th Voices (Performance Video) , shortly afterwards, on August 19th MIA (Performance Video) , next, on August 22nd, the Video Questions (Street Ver. ) , Awkward Silence came online on August 27th and on September 5th a video was even released for the album only track Mixtape # 2 .
The third and final album of the I-am trilogy, I am You , was released together with the music video for the title track of the same name on October 22, 2018.
Concept and theme of the I-am trilogy
Thematically, the I-am albums deal with the question of one's own identity. I am Not describes the knowledge that you are not the person you thought you were before. I am Who builds on this and asks the question of who you actually are. I am You tries to answer this question and suggests finding yourself through other people. It means finding common ground with other people, understanding and supporting one another. This would also help you find out more about yourself step by step.
Bang Chan emphasizes that this approach is only intended to provide orientation on the way to one's own identity and also that self-discovery does not end there.
2019: Clé 1: MIROH and Woojin's exit
On March 25th, their one year anniversary, Stray Kids' fourth EP Clé 1: Miroh was released. With seven songs plus the song Mixtape # 4 included exclusively on the album , a new era began in Stray Kids' musical journey. After the music video of the title track Miroh broke the previous personal record of most views in the first 24 hours, the group got their first win in a music show on April 4th. The date 4419 had a special meaning for Stray Kids and the Stay fan club , as the song "4419" from the pre-debut EP Mixtape tells of how Bang Chan's friends celebrated their debut one after the other and he is now sitting alone on the bus .
On October 28, 2019, JYP Entertainment announced that Woojin had left the group for personal reasons and that his contract had been terminated. It also said that the release of the new mini-album Clé: Levanter has been postponed from November 25 to December 9, 2019.
