The Goeree-Overflakkee local history museum

The Streekmuseum Goeree-Overflakkee ( German  Heimatmuseum Goeree-Overflakkee ) is located within seven old Dutch houses from the 17th century in the old center of the village of Sommelsdijk . The houses are connected to each other. The museum has 19 departments and holds an exhibition every year.

Various facets of work and everyday life on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee are clearly displayed. The collection has items from the 1st century AD. There is a complete apartment, a classroom and a small shop from around 1900 . The fishery and arable farming departments show sources of income from that time.

You can also visit the workshops of a blacksmith, wagon maker, shoemaker and a clog maker. A photo collection reminds of the 'Watersnoodramp' (flood disaster) of 1953 , in which hundreds of islanders drowned.
