The Striped Pipra ( Machaeropterus regulus ) is a South American passerine bird in the purr family .
features
The 10 cm long striped pipra is colored olive green on the top and is red and white striped on the underside. The male has a scarlet hood.
Occurrence
The striped pipra lives on the lower and middle floors of the rainforest and secondary forests in Colombia , Venezuela , eastern Ecuador , northeast Peru and parts of Brazil .
Reproduction
During the breeding season, the males gather in clearings and perform courtship dances to attract females. The bowl-shaped nest made of interwoven plant parts is built between two branches in a tree or bush. The clutch of one or two eggs is incubated for two to three weeks. The young birds fledge after two weeks. The nest building, brooding and rearing of the young are done by the female alone.
