A spreader is a device for the dosed and even spreading of grit. A spreader is mainly used in agriculture , in gardening and landscaping as well as in road maintenance . A spreading device usually consists of a spreading unit and a spreading material container. A spreader can be differentiated according to the type of spreading material, drive type and application technology.

Type of spreading material

The grit is usually pourable to mushy. Fertilizer can be organic ( compost or manure ) or man -made. Spreaders for sowing are mainly used in gardening and landscaping . Oil binding agents and de-icing salt or brine are used in road maintenance services.

Drive type

On the one hand, grit can be spread by hand. Granular or granular fertilizer, grit or road salt is evenly distributed over the application area in so-called litter trays , which are worn on the body by means of straps. In the case of manure , in the past it was driven into the fields by wagon and spread out with a fork or rake . In some spreaders, the drive via the tires works purely mechanically, with a drive mechanism on the axle shaft driving the spreading unit. The drive via a so-called PTO shaft or via hydraulic or electric drive is widespread .

Application technology

In addition to manual spreading with hand and spreading trough, shovel , rake or fork, there are various systems for spreading spreading material. Pendulum spreader and disc spreader are mainly used in the application of granular or granular fertilizer, grit or road salt. It can also be used for sowing .

Roller spreaders are mainly used in manure spreaders for the application of organic fertilizer.
