Strickland is a river in the Western Province of Papua New Guinea .
It is the longest tributary of the Fly . Its source is in the Bismarck Mountains , the confluence with the Fly south of the largest lake in Papua New Guinea, Lake Murray .
Since 1989 there has been pollution from residues from the Porgera gold mine in the upper reaches of the Enga province .
