The marlin spike is a knot that can be used to tie a stick to a rope. The name of the knot has its origin in the Marlspieker , where it is mostly used.

application

A thin line can be tightened with the marlin spike , for example when rigging or clovers . Two handles can be attached to a thick or rough hawser with a weaving line, in order to pull a heavy load by hand. If the pulling end is hung from a branch, a rope ladder can be built.

The knot can only withstand tension in the "right" direction. If the rope ladder is rolled up, the rungs can slip out, and if the load is in the wrong direction, the loop turns into a loosening slip- on loop .

Knot

An eye is placed with the rope and the end of the rope to be pulled is pulled through the eye as a loop.

Modifications

  • The Slipstek  Slipstek.png   can be seen as a “basic knot” , but the loop is not laid with the loose end, but with the fixed (load) end.
