Magnus Striet

Magnus Striet (* 1964 in Rheine ) is professor of fundamental theology at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life

After studying Catholic theology, German and history, he was a research assistant at the seminar for dogmatics and the history of dogmas in Münster from 1994 to 2000 . In 1998 he became a Dr. via the subject in Nietzsche's late philosophy “The I in the fall of reality”. theol. PhD in Freiburg. He completed his habilitation in 2001 in Münster with a thesis on the subject of "Revelable Secret - On the Critique of Negative Theology" and received the Venia legendi for the subject of dogmatics and the history of dogmas.

After substituting professorships in Tübingen, Osnabrück and Münster, he was appointed professor for fundamental theology (since 2017: fundamental theology and philosophical anthropology) at the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Freiburg. From April 1, 2008 to February 28, 2010 he was dean of the theological faculty of the University of Freiburg , and from 2015 to 2017 he was vice dean.

Since 2011 he has been a co-opted member of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Freiburg. In the same year he turned down offers to the universities of Münster and Vienna.

Act

Striet's work focuses on anthropology, the doctrine of God and eschatology. Striet deals in particular with questions of theological anthropology and the doctrine of God, he also turns to difficult questions such as the theodicy debate . The dialogue between theology and philosophy is very pronounced with him, with a focus on the modern philosophy of freedom.

He is a signatory of the memorandum “ Church 2011: A Necessary Awakening ” and co-editor of the series ratio fidei - Contributions to the Philosophical Accountability of Theology .
