The Strobel is a breed of the old German herding dogs , a down-to-earth herding dog from southern Germany.
In 1905 Strebel wrote about the "German shaggy-haired shepherd dog":
"The breed characteristics for the shaggy-haired are exactly the same as those for the German shepherds, only that they pay special attention to the coat."
And further referring to Reichenbach :
“In the shaggy breed, thick, long wavy hair that is rough to the touch: the plentiful hair on the head falls off on all sides, partially covering the eyes, and forms a mustache and mustache covering the muzzle. The paws are long hairy, a flag on the tail. The inner hair of the lop ears is also shaggy. "
Its shaggy, weatherproof fur can be of different colors, with black, tabby and yellow-cheeked animals being the most common in the population. Like many of these herding dogs , the Strobel is medium to large (approx. 55–70 cm). Depending on the breeding line , the animals can be quite headstrong and have a certain natural sharpness that they need to protect the herd entrusted to them. They are considered to be highly resilient.
