Stromatoxin (synonym κ-Theraphotoxin-Sc1a , ScTx1 ) is a protein and toxin from the African tarantula Stromatopelma calceata .

properties

Stromatoxin is produced in the poison glands. It belongs to the family of inhibitor cystine knot - spider toxins . Stromatoxin inhibits voltage-gated potassium channels , including delayed Kv2.1 / KCNB1 ( IC 50 = 12.7 nM), Kv2.1 / Kv9.3 (IC 50 = 7.2 nM, KCNB1 / KCNS3), Kv2.2 / KCNB2 (IC 50 = 21.4 nM) and transient Kv4.2 / KCND2 (IC 50 = 1.2 nM), but not Kv4.1 / KCND1 and Kv4.3 / KCND3 . It has three disulfide bridges . The C terminus of the stromatoxin is amidated .
