The Stromio GmbH is a medium-sized electricity provider based in Kaarst . The company is an independent energy supplier without its own power grid . Stromio describes itself as an " energy discounter ". The company's offer consists of various electricity tariffs for private and small business customers as well as green electricity offers from the Grünwelt Energie sales brand .

Companies

The company was founded on February 19, 2009 with its headquarters in Münster . In August 2009 the nationwide distribution of electricity tariffs began. The first customers were supplied with electricity from November 1, 2009. In 2010, Stromio initially relocated to Düsseldorf. In 2011 the seat was finally moved to Kaarst.

In September 2010, nationwide gas sales began via gas.de Vertriebsgesellschaft mbH.

Stromio and gas.de have been offering green electricity and green gas under the Grünwelt Energie sales brand since 2011 . The tariffs are certified by TÜV Nord and partly by the ok-power label . In late summer 2012, Stromio offered electricity tariffs to small business customers with an annual consumption of up to 100 MWh for the first time.

Stromio and gas.de joined the Energy Arbitration Board as full members in October 2013 .

Since 2015, Grünwelt Wärmestrom GmbH has also been offering low-tariff electricity for heat pumps and night storage heating .

All three companies (Stromio, gas.de and Grünwelt Wärmestrom) transfer their profits through a profit transfer agreement to Universal Utility Investment GmbH & Co. KG, Kaarst, as the controlling company . This group of companies also includes the wind turbine manufacturer Amperax, which continues the development and manufacture of the earlier Prokon wind turbine. The utility group belongs to the German Callax group (Callax Holding, Düsseldorf), which in turn is part of the Dutch Callax group.

criticism

The Stiftung Warentest warned, among other things, of Stromio because of hidden price increases, but the conditions of the two tariff options Grünstrom pure and pure Premium from Grünwelt Energie were considered fair, as they can be canceled on a monthly basis and offer a 12-month price guarantee; all other tariffs tested, including those from Grünwelt Energie not mentioned here , contained unfair conditions.

On July 5, 2016, the consumer advice center obtained a judgment of fundamental importance against the company: The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court rejected a price adjustment clause and objected to the procedure of mandating a direct debit authorization when ordering.
